Multi Filament Yarn

Yarn is "a generic term for a continuous strand of textile fibers, filaments, or material in a form suitable for knitting, weaving, or otherwise intertwining to form a fabric.

It is an indispensable part of the packaging industry, just like the nerve ties the human body together this yarn gives shape, form, and existence to the product that it is used in. It is manufactured using threads, which are known as filaments. The yarns are spun on machines after the filament is extruded. Since the diameter of the threads is multifilament tiny, the bending stiffness is very low, aiding the flexibility of the yarn. These filaments are measured in units like Denier.

Multifilament yarn is also known as continuous filament. A multifilament yarn consists of a bunch of monofilaments with a nominal twist to provide coherence to the structure. Alternatively, fibers in multifilament can be held together by intermingling or entanglement. A non-circular cross-section prevents the close packing of multifilament yarns. Produced through Extrusion Spinning - Fully Drawn Yarns of High Tenacity. They are extruded, cooled, stretched, and wound on Winders directly after passing through an annealing zone.

• Multifilament's' can be drawn more effectively than its counterpart, hence it has greater strength and a higher modulus.
• MFY is much more flexible than monofilaments at an equivalent linear density.
• Multifilament yarn with round filaments has a higher packing fraction than structured cross-sections which offer higher bulk.
